Or at least the first hour does. That’s the hour without Stephen Hawking, when all you have is intense fake images, LOUD, portentous music, and that same guy that always narrates those action film trailers. I was as anxious as when I saw 28 Days Later projected in my friend’s attic.
Some good friends and I gathered around the smell-o-vision to watch the episode on black holes that played last Sunday, and it took us way too long to get through it because I kept pausing it (TiVo!) to express my malcontent. Jeeeeze! Way too many of the explanations were damn lazy or just bad. (“___ is at the edge of the Universe!” Come on!!!) So, I don’t reeeally recommend that first hour (8-9pm on Sunday). But the next hour’s great!
Hour two, Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking, is also chock-a-block full of loud, portentious music, but the explanations are such a relief after that first hour! You can tell that whoever edited it knew what they were talking about. And Stephen Hawking’s also, well, the man. So check it out…if you haven’t already.
